Act 1: The Lazy Farmer

【Scene】
A tree stands on the stage. 

The farmer sits under it.

Narrator:

Once, there was a farmer. He had a field, but he did not like to work.

Farmer:
Oh no! Work is so hard!
Planting is hard.
Pulling weeds is hard.
I wish food could come to me!

(Sits under the tree.)

Farmer:
Maybe a rabbit will come to me!

Rabbit:
(Hops in happily.)
Hop! Hop! Hop!

Sound: BONK!

(The rabbit bumps into the tree and falls down.)

Farmer:
Wow! A rabbit!
I don’t need to work now. I will wait here every day!

Act 2: Waiting

【Scene】
A few days later. The farmer is still sitting.

Village Chief:
Hello, Farmer. Why are you not working?

Farmer:
I am waiting for another rabbit!

Village Chief:
Another rabbit?

Farmer:
Yes! One rabbit came before. Another will come!

Village Chief:
Hmm… rabbits do not usually bump into trees.

Farmer:
That’s okay. I will wait!

Act 3: The Lesson

【Scene】
Later. The field has weeds. The farmer looks hungry.

Farmer:
I waited and waited…
Where are the rabbits?

Rabbit:
(Peeks out.)
Not me! Bye!

(Runs away.)

Village Chief:
Did you get more rabbits?

Farmer:
No.

Village Chief:
Did you grow food?

Farmer:
No.

Village Chief:
Then what did you get?

Farmer:
Nothing…

Village Chief:
Come help me plant seeds.

Farmer:
You are right. I should work hard!

Ending

Narrator:
The farmer learned a lesson.
Do not only wait for luck.
Work hard, and good things will grow.

All Together:
Work hard and do your best!

(Everyone bows.)
