The Odyssey is an epic  of Homer’s ancient Greek story about Odysseus, 

a clever king who tries to sail home after a ten-year war. 

Along the way, he faces the one-eyed Cyclops, 

singing Sirens, 

and scary sea monsters 

using his brain instead of muscle.

Key Adventures on the Journey

The Cyclops: Odysseus tricks a giant, one-eyed monster named Polyphemus to escape from a dark cave.

The Sirens: He ties himself to his ship’s mast so he can listen to the magical, dangerous singing voices of the Sirens without crashing his ship.

Witches and Monsters: He outsmarts the queen Circe

 and sails past a six-headed beast named Scylla.

The Return Home: Back in Ithaca, he fights to win back his home and family with patience and clever tricks.
