【Socrates】
【Socrates】
Socrates was born in ancient Greece.
He loved reading
and was good at thinking.
Through hard self-study, he became a learned man
and made teaching his lifelong career.
Unlike the wise men of his time, Socrates did
not like to talk about politics.
What he focused on and taught were mainly issues
related to morality, such as:
What is morality?
How to cultivate morality?
What is the demeanor(風度) of
a ruler?
...Socrates once said: "The greatest happiness is to be able to talk about
morality every day."
And he not only knew and talked about it, but he
could also do it.
Socrates was a man of self-discipline
and a man of propriety.
He was able to abide by moral ethics, know the
limits, and follow the rules.
Someone once asked him, "How do you prepare for death?"
Socrates replied, "Whether in public or in
public, Even in private, I never do anything to offend
others."
Therefore, even if his life comes to an end, he can feel at ease and fearless.
At that time, Socrates was imprisoned for offending the authorities.
He had two options: one was the death penalty by
drinking poison, and the other was to confess his guilt and be exiled.
Faced with such an unfair political trial,
Socrates' students were sad and advised him to leave, but he insisted on upholding the truth and chose the death penalty.
Even before his execution, Socrates refused the escape plan that his students had arranged for him.
He adhered to the law,
just like the ideas and concepts he had always advocated.
In the end, Socrates died at the age of seventy.
He embraced correct ideals and fought bravely throughout his life,
and is listed as one of the four great sages along with Confucius, Buddha, and
Jesus.
