Master Xuanzang

 

When Master Xuanzang crossed the desert, not only were there no animals on the ground;

there were no birds in the sky, and no grass or trees.

Endless sand was before him.

One man and one horse, the journey was extremely difficult.

 

At this time, the master kept chanting “Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva”.

Because of his wholehearted chanting the Holy Name, even the water bag came loose, he did not know it.

 

At this time, there is not any water.

In this critical situation,

he really don’t know what to do?

 

He thought that if he went forward rashly, that was a dead end, “so I have to turn.”

 

The horse head was ready to return eastwards, and walked more than ten miles road, and thought again:

"When setting out, I vowed that if I did not arrive India, I will never return to the East.

 

It is better to die westward than to live by returning! "

 

This thought flashed through his mind.

 

He then turned his horse around and continued westward.

 

Night, he saw the stars shining, the white sand reflecting.

He was on his way as fast as day.

 

After four nights and five days, he was exhausted.

 

The horse was tired and could not move forward.

He was very hungry and thirsty, his body was like a fire burning, lying in the desert.

 

But he still kept chanting the Buddha, the holy name.

 

 Just like this, one day after another, at midnight on the fifth day, a cool breeze blew, and Master Xuanzang woke up.

 

The old horse also jumped up, and they immediately went westward for another ten miles.

 

Suddenly the old horse abandon the right path and go to the fork in the road.

Soon, suddenly, they saw green grass growing on the ground, the old horse chewed a lot.

 

Not far away, they found a pool.

 

Both man and horse drank as much as they could.
