Old monk Xuyun 19

We once asked Old Monk: "I heard that people who have witnessed the "path of insight" (darśana-mārga) are saints, right?"

He said, "Yes!" I said, "That is the person who has achieved the first fruition of Arhat, right?" "The first fruition" , yes!"

He added: "Actually, the first fruit is very simple.

A person who has achieved the first fruit of Sotapanna not only has no delusions in concentration, but also has no delusions in ordinary walking, standing, sitting, and lying down.

His six sense are on the six objects are not stained, even if the six objects cannot disturb him, he will enter the holy stream."

It is said that when a person who has attained the first stage of Arhat walks, although you see his feet on the ground, they are actually two inches above the ground.

At that time, someone also asked us: "I heard that people who have escaped from life and death do not touch the ground with their feet or touch the mud when they walk.

Then the old monk is considered a great Bodhisattva.

You often walk with him, but do his feet touch the ground? ?

Are the shoes stained with mud?"

So we paid close attention to this matter and went through many experiments.

The ground in Yunju Mountain is full of mud, and it rains frequently.

When most people come back from a walk, their shoes will naturally be stained with a lot of mud.

But the old monk's shoes were never muddy.

The strange thing is that when we walked behind him and paid close attention to his walking, we could clearly see his shoes stepping on the mud.

But after we came back, we looked at his shoes and there was no mud on them.

The mystery of this is still unclear to us.

我們曾經請問老和尚：「聽說證了道的人，就是聖人，是嗎？」他說：「是呀！」我說：「那就是證到初果羅漢的人是不是？」

「初果，是呀！」他又說：「實際上初果很不簡單，證到初果須陀洹的人，不但定中沒有妄想，就是平常的行住坐臥，也沒有妄想。

他的六根不染六塵，就是六塵不能打擾他，他就入了聖流。」

據說證了初果羅漢的人走路時，雖然你看見他雙腳是踩在地上，但實際是離地有兩分高的。

那時也有人問我們：「聽說了脫生死的人，走路時腳不觸地，不沾泥巴。那麼老和尚都算是大菩薩了，你們經常隨他走路，究竟他的腳踩不踩地？鞋子沾不沾泥土呢？」

於是我們就很留心這個事情，並且經過多次的試驗。

雲居山的地都是泥巴土，經常下雨，一般人走了一趟回來，鞋子自然沾了好多泥巴。

可是老和尚的鞋子從來不見有泥巴。奇怪的是，當我們走在他後面，留心注意他走路時，明明是見到他的鞋子踩在泥巴土上。

但是回來後，我們再看他的鞋子，就是沒有沾上半點泥巴。這其中的奧妙，我們至今還搞不清楚。
