 Old monk Xuyun 07

The old monk is in good health.

In addition to eating two bowls of porridge in the morning, he sometimes eats a little potato.

Eat two big bowls of rice for lunch. Sometimes I have a small bowl of noodles or a little porridge at night.

Listen to what he said: He started taking medicinal stones(dinner) at night after the Cloud Gate incident.

Before that, he had never eaten after lunch.

The old monk had very good teeth.

I remember once, a layman sent some fried broad beans up the mountain.

When the old monk saw us eating, he wanted to eat too.

We said, "This stuff is very hard.

Can your teeth be okay?" Without saying a word, he picked up the broad beans and ate them faster than us. We were very surprised.

He is very frugal and cherishes blessings. 

The straw mat he slept on was torn and he asked us to help him repair it with cloth.

Not long after, it broke again in the same place, and it was beyond repair. 

We told the old monk that we wanted to take the straw mat to our permanent residence and exchange it for a new one. 

At that time, a straw mat only cost about two yuan. 

Unexpectedly, after hearing this, the old man cursed loudly: "What a great blessing! 

I want to enjoy a new mat of the monastry?" We didn't dare to say anything.

老和尚的身體很好，早上除了吃兩碗稀飯外，有時還會吃一點馬鈴薯。中午吃兩大碗米飯。

晚上有時吃一小碗面條，或者吃一點稀飯。

聽他說：他晚上開始吃藥石，是從雲門事件發生後才開始的。

在此以前，他老人家一直都是過午不食的。

老和尚的牙齒特別好，記得有一次，有個居士送了一些炒熟的蠶豆上山。

老和尚看到我們在吃，他也要吃。我們說：「這東西很硬的，你老人家牙齒行嗎？」他一言不發，拿起蠶豆就吃起來了，吃得比我們還要快，我們甚感意外。

他老人家是很節儉惜福的，他睡的草蓆破了，要我們幫他用布補好。

不久後，在同一個地方又破了，實在補無可補。

我們就對老和尚說，想把草蓆拿到常住去換一張新的。

那時，一張草蓆只不過是兩塊人民幣左右，不料他老人家聽後，便大聲地罵：

「好大的福氣啊！要享受常住一張新蓆子。」

我們都不敢作聲了。
