Later, more and more people came.

At that time, the regulations stipulated that people without labor force and unable to produce were not allowed to place orders.

By the end of 1956, there were more than 120 people living there, and more than 200 acres of wasteland and 100 acres of dry land had been reclaimed.

It can harvest nearly 100,000 catties of rice and more than 100,000 catties of miscellaneous grains every year, making it basically self-sufficient.

At that time, the old monk, who was already 117 years old, visited construction sites and wasteland areas every day, gave personal guidance,

and received people from all walks of life.

Go to the meditation hall to give a sermon at six o'clock in the evening.

After eight o'clock, he began to read letters from all over the world.

Sometimes there were more than a hundred letters a day, and he had to read them one by one.

If it was an important letter, he would reply in his own hand.

If it is an ordinary letter, he will explain the meaning and we will reply on his behalf.

I usually go to bed around 12 o'clock in the middle of the night, and get up to meditate again at 2 o'clock in the next morning.

I don't get up until I do four strokes, which is about 3:30, and then I get up and wash my face.

He didn't use toothbrush or toothpaste.

He just rinsed a mouthful of warm water and spit it on a towel.

He washed his eyes first and then his entire face.

He said washing like this can prevent eye diseases and improve vision.

After washing my face, I went to worship in front of the Buddha, and then returned to bed to meditate.

At that time, we started to go to the morning temple.

After the morning hall, we rested for a while.

After hearing the sound of slit drums, everyone went to the dining hall for breakfast.

後來，人愈來愈多。

當時常住就規定，不允許沒有勞動力，不能生產的人掛單。

到了五六年底，已住有一百二十多人，開墾荒地二百多畝，旱地一百多畝。

每年可收水稻近十萬斤，各種雜糧十多萬斤，基本上可以自給自足了。

當時，已是一百一十七歲高齡的老和尚，每天都要到建築場所和開荒的地方巡看，並親自指導，還要接待來自各方的人士。

晚上六點到禪堂裡講開示。

八點以後，開始翻閱來自各地的信件，信件有時一天多達百多封，他老人家都要一一過目。

若是重要的函件，他便親筆回復。

若是一般書信，他說明意思，就由我們代復。

平常都要深夜十二點左右才休息，翌日凌晨兩點又起床打坐，直至打四板，即大約三點半，才起床洗臉。

他不用牙刷牙膏，只用溫水漱一口水，然後吐在毛巾上，先洗雙眼，再洗整個面部。

他說這樣洗，可防止眼疾，且能增加視力。

洗過臉後，就到佛前禮拜，之後又回到床上打坐。

那時，我們就開始上早殿了。

早殿後稍為休息一會兒，聞打梆聲大眾就往齋堂過早堂了。
