Apollo的太陽車
Apollo, the sun god, had a son named Phaéthōn, who was very handsome. One day, someone said that he was not the son of Apollo. He was very angry and asked the Sun God to prove his life experience.
太陽神阿波羅(Apollo)有個兒子名叫Phaéthōn，長得非常俊秀。有一天，有人說他不是Apollo的兒子，他很生氣，就去請太陽神證明自己的身世。
The palace of the Sun God was built on the high mountain of Parnassas, and the bricks and tiles of the palace glowed with brilliant golden light.
Phaéthōn entered the palace and saw the richness and splendor of the carved beams and painted pillars, the ivory patio, and the silver palace doors.
He was dazzled by the sight.
太陽神的宮殿建在巴拿撒斯高山上，宮殿的磚瓦發出燦爛的金光。Phaéthōn進入宮殿，見到雕樑畫棟，象牙天井，白銀宮門，十分富麗堂皇，他看得眼花撩亂。
At this time, the Sun God was sitting on a throne made of diamonds. He was wearing a purple robe and looked very majestic. Phaéthōn paid homage to his father and explained his intention.
這時候，太陽神正坐在金剛石砌成的寶座上，他身穿紫袍，顯得很威武。Phaéthōn 拜見父神，說明來意。
The Sun God said: "You are indeed my biological son. I can give you any proof you want." Phaéthōn requested: "Please allow me to ride in the Sun Chariot once to prove my identity."
太陽神說：「你的確是我的親生兒子。你要什麼證據，我都可以給你。」Phaéthōn請求說：「請父神准許我坐一次太陽車，以便證明我的身分。」
After hearing this, the Sun God was surprised and said: "Only I can drive the Sun Chariot. Even Zeus, the Emperor of Heaven, can't control this kind of car. You are just a mortal and you cannot ask to drive the Sun Chariot."
太陽神聽了，很訝異的說：「太陽車只有我才能駕馭，這種車就連天帝宙斯也拿它沒辦法。你只是一個凡間的人，不可以要求駕太陽車。」
Apollo並仔細的分析太陽車的危險性。他說：「拉太陽車的馬精力充沛，你可能控制不了牠們。再加上路途崎嶇險阻，當車要登上空中的時候，駕馭者會被陽光照花眼睛，連地面上哪兒是海洋哪兒是陸地都分不出來。
下坡的時候速度更快，沒有經驗的人，可能會失去控制，人，車連同馬匹一起跌到海裡去。
實在太危險了!」他又說：「我的好兒子，你要打消駕太陽車的念頭，因為一路上還有許多可怕的妖怪呢!」
Phaéthōn對於Apollo這一番話，一句也聽不進去。他堅持坐一次太陽車才甘心。最後，Apollo只好答應他的請求。
太陽車整個車身的材料都是黃金，
Phaéthōn迫不及待的要出發了。Apollo很不放心的為兒子戴上一頂護帽。
太陽車被幾匹駿馬拉著。駿馬連連發出句戴的嘶聲，立刻往前衝去。這時候，車顛簸的很厲害，而且已經脫離了原先的道路。
太陽車像火一般的熱度，使得所有的星座都受不了。Phaéthōn很緊張，臉色蒼白，兩腿發抖，不知如何是好。
下面是一望無際的大地，天空中散佈著許多可怕的妖怪。這時候的Phaéthōn又因為忘了馬的名字，也就沒辦法指揮牠們了。
幾匹馬拉著火熱的太陽車，飛快的奔跑，在太空中橫衝直撞，一會兒高一會兒低，所經過的地方，立刻燃燒起來。地面上的高山和森林早就變成一片火海。
Phaéthōn一看大地都失火了，自己也受不了那種高溫度的熱氣，更是不知所措。各地的河川都被曬得乾涸了，也出現了不少的沙漠。
大家都受不了Phaéthōn駕著太陽車到處惹禍。天帝宙斯知道了這件事，趕快舉行了緊急會議。討論的結果，決定用雲阻止天空中的熱氣向地面延伸。
最後宙斯發射雷霆，把Phaéthōn的太陽車擊碎。Phaéthōn像流星般墜落在地上。
倔強的Phaéthōn就這樣結束了他的生命。
