Zhu Xi was a Neo-Confucianist in the Southern Song
Dynasty.
The book "Zhu Zi Yu Lei" records the
conversations between him and his disciples.
Volume 95 of the book contains a discussion
between his students and him about an article by Cheng Hao, a Neo-Confucianist
in the Northern Song Dynasty, "The Book of
Determination".
This is a letter that Cheng Hao wrote to Zhang
Zai, a contemporary scholar, when he was an official in Huxian County, discussing the issue of
"determination".
To learn anything, one must first settle the mind.
This is what "The Great Learning"
said, "Knowing the limit, then there is
determination."
