【猴子與鱷魚】Act 1, forest

 第一幕，森林

Once upon a time in the middle of a dense forest,

there was a mighty river.

In that river there lived an old crocodile.

 

He was not able to hunt anymore because he was weak and feeble.

 

One day he was very hungry, so he thought to himself.

很久很久以前，

在一片茂密的森林中，

 

有一條奔騰的大河。

 

河裡住著一隻老鱷魚。

 

他已經虛弱無力，

無法再捕捉動物。

 

有一天，他餓極了，於是他心想：

 

【鱷】It is very difficult to go on land and hunt.

I should try catching some fishes in the river...I am so hungry.

 

【鱷】在陸地上捕捉動物非常困難。我應該試著在河裡抓些魚……我太餓了。

 

When he tried to catch the fish, the fish slipped out of his hands.

 

Drained and dejected, he decided to rest under a tree at the riverside...

A monkey was sitting on the branch of that tree eating berries. The crocodile saw the monkey and asked,

 

當他試圖抓魚時，

魚從他手中滑落了。

 

精疲力竭、沮喪不已的他決定在河邊的一棵樹下休息…

 

一隻猴子坐在樹枝上吃漿果。

 

鱷魚看到猴子，就問猴子說：

 

【鱷】Oh dear monkey...what are you eating?  Could you give me some of that, please?

I'm very hungry.

【鱷】哦，親愛的猴子…你在吃什麼？你能給我一些嗎？我餓極了。

 

【猴】These are berries...they are very sweet. Here you go! Eat these...

【猴】這些是漿果……它們很甜。給你！吃吧…

 

【鱷】Oh yes! They are really very sweet. Thank you my saviour.

I was very hungry, and you help me. You are very kind.

 

I would be grateful if I had a friend like you.

 

【鱷】哦，是的！它們真的很甜。謝謝你，我的救命恩人。我餓極了，你幫我。你真好。如果我有你這樣的朋友，我會很感激的。

 

【猴】Yes yes why not, we are friends now... I live on this tree... whenever you feel hungry you can always come here...and I'll give you the best berries I can find.

【猴】是啊，是啊，為什麼不呢，我們現在是朋友了…

我住在這棵樹上……你餓的時候隨時可以來……我會給你我能找到的最好的漿果。

 

【旁】Thereafter  everyday the crocodile would come by the tree and the monkey would give him berries. They used to have lot of fun together. In this manner, they had become very good friends. Sometimes the crocodile would come and play near the tree, and sometimes the monkey would sit on the crocodile's back and go around the river.

 

【旁】從那以後，鱷魚每天都會經過這棵樹，猴子會給他漿果。他們在一起玩得很開心。就這樣，他們成了非常好的朋友。有時鱷魚會來到樹邊玩耍，有時猴子會坐在鱷魚背上繞著河走。

 

[Act 2, on the river]

[第二幕，在河邊]

 

【鱷】Listen, my friend, I would like my wife to have some of there berries...can you give me some? Please!   I will take them home.

 

【鱷】聽著，我的朋友，我想讓我老婆吃點漿果……你能給我一些嗎？求求你了！我會帶回家的。

 

【猴】Sure, I will pluck them right away. Let's go!

 

【猴】當然，我馬上就摘。走吧！

 

[Act 3, monkey's tree house]

[第三幕，猴子的樹屋]

 

【旁】The monkey happily plucked some berries and gave it to him. And the crocodile took them to his wife ... who stayed on the other side of the river.

【旁】猴子高興地摘了一些漿果給了鱷魚。鱷魚把漿果帶給了住在河對岸的妻子…

 

[Act 4, river side, crocodile's home]

 

[第四幕，河邊，鱷魚的家]

 

【鱷】Darling! Look what I got for you...some Sweet Berries...My friend monkey has sent these for you.

【鱷】親愛的！看我帶了什麼給你……一些超甜的漿果……我的朋友猴子要我送給你的。

 

【鱷魚太太】Oh wow...These berries are very sweet. My dear husband, till when will you survive on berries? Just think, if these berries taste so sweet, that monkey eats these everyday. How sweet will he be?

【鱷魚太太】哇哦…這些漿果真甜。親愛的老公，你還要靠莓果活到什麼時候？想想看，如果這些莓果這麼甜，那隻猴子每天都吃這些，他會多甜呢？

 

【鱷】Yes yes. He is very nice! He eats and he gives it to me also.

【鱷】是啊是啊。他人真好！他吃東西，還給我吃。

 

【鱷魚太太】Actually, I was thinking, how sweet will his Heart be? And I haven't even tasted meat since a long time...Can you get me his heart?

 

【鱷魚太太】其實，我在想，他的心會有多甜呢？我已經很久沒吃肉了……你能把那猴子的心給我嗎？

 

【旁】Upon hearing this, the crocodile start thinking deeply, and said to his wife.

 

【旁】鱷魚聽了，陷入沉思，對妻子說。

 

【鱷】How can I do this? The Monkey is my friend. I can not betray his trust...If I give you heart, he will die! He fed me when I was hungry. And now you want me to kill him?

 

【鱷】我該怎麼辦？猴子是我的朋友。我不能辜負他的信任……如果我把心給你，他會死的！我餓的時候，他餵我。現在你想讓我殺了他？

 

(Horrible Music)

（可怕的音樂）

【鱷魚太太】I don't want to listen to anything...I just want that monkey's heart. Go and get it for me, otherwise I will go far away.

 

【鱷魚太太】我什麼都不想聽…我只想要那隻猴子的心。快去把它給我，不然我就要離家出走。

 

【旁】Listening to his wife, the poor crocodile felt helpless.

【旁】聽著妻子的話，可憐的鱷魚感到無助。  (~待續)
