【繪本】Reading ~ The Dentist and the Crocodile

 

【旁白】

The crocodile, with cunning smile, sat in the dentist’s chair.

 

 鱷魚帶著狡猾的微笑，

  坐在牙醫的椅子上。

 

 

 

【鱷魚】

Right here and everywhere my teeth require repair.

 

 

在這裡, 還有我全部的牙齒都需要修一修。

 

(The dentist’s face was turning white.)

 

(牙醫臉色慘白。)

 

(He quivered,quaked and shook.)

 

 （渾身發抖、扭動、顫抖。)

 

【牙醫】

I suppose... I’m going to... have to... take a look. (muttered)

 

 我想……我要……必須……看看。 （嘀咕）

 

 

【鱷魚】

I want you, to do the back ones first.

 

我要你，先修理後面的。

 

The molars at the very back are easily the worst.

 

最後面的臼齒是最容易壞的。

【旁白】

 

The crocdile opened wide his massive jaws.

 

鱷魚張開了巨大的下巴。

 

It was a fearsome sight—

 

這是一個令人恐懼的景象——

 

At least three hundred pointed teeth,

 

至少有三百顆尖利的牙齒，

 

all sharp and shining white.

 

全部鋒利而潔白。

 

(The dentist kept himself well clear.)

 

(牙醫保持著足夠的距離。)

 

He stood two yards away.

 

(他站在兩碼遠的地方。)

 

(He chose the longest probe he had to search out the decay.)

 

 

(他選擇了最長的牙醫探視鏡來尋找壞牙的地方。）

 

【鱷魚】

I said to do the back ones first!

 

我說先做後面的！

 

( the Crocodile called out.)

 

（鱷魚大聲的叫。）

【鱷魚】

You’re much too far away, dear sir, to see what you’re about.

 

親愛的先生，你離得太遠了，看不清楚你在做什麼。

 

 

To do the back ones properly you’ve got to put your head...

 

要看到裡面的牙，你必須把你的頭…

 

 

Deep down inside my great big mouth, (grinning)

 

深深地放進我的大嘴裡，（笑）

 

 【旁白】

The poor old dentist wrung his hands and, weeping in despair,

 

可憐的老牙醫絞著雙手，絕望地哭泣，

 

【牙醫】

No no! I see them all extremely well from here!

(He cried)

 

不不！我從這裡看得非常清楚！（他哭了）

【旁白】

Just then, in burst a lady,

 

就在這時，一名女士闖了進來，

 

in her hands a golden chain.

她手裡拿著一條金鍊子。

 

【女士】

Oh Croc, you naughty boy,

 

哦，鱷魚，你這個頑皮的孩子，

 

you’re playing tricks again! (she cried)

 

你又惡作劇了！

（她大聲說）

 

【牙醫】

Watch out!

小心

 

(the dentist shrieked and started climbing up the wall.)

（牙醫尖叫著開始爬牆。）

 

【女士】

 He’s after me!

他是跟著我的!

 

【牙醫】

 

He’s after you?!

 

他是跟著你的?!

    

He’s going to eat us all!

 

他會把我們全都吃掉！

 

【女士】

Don’t be a twit,

 

別傻了！

 

(the lady said, and flashed a gorgeous smile.)

（女士一邊說道，一邊露出燦爛的笑容。）

 

He’s harmless.

他是無害的。

He’s my little pet,

他是我的小寵物，

 

my lovely crocodile.

我可愛的鱷魚。

 

【女士】(to the croc)

（對鱷魚）

 

Let's go, baby.

我們走吧，寶貝。
