【Jingwei fills up the sea】

Jingwei fills up the sea精衛填海

Jingwei is a bird in ancient mythology, "The Classic of Mountains and Seas"(山海經).

It is described in the "Beishan Jing"(北山經) that its head has beautiful patterns(花紋), its mouth is white, and its feet are red.

It is said that it was formed by the soul of the daughter of Emperor Yan(炎帝) after her death.

According to legend, Emperor Yan had a beautiful little daughter named Nuwa(女娃).

The girl likes the sea very much.

Once, while playing alone at the beach

she unfortunately slipped and fell into the sea and never came back.

On Fajiu Mountain(發鳩山) to the west of the East China Sea, after the death of the female child,

a beautiful bird appeared.

It is said that it is the incarnation of the female child.

It always calls "Jingwei, Jingwei", so it is called "Jingwei, Jingwei". "Jingwei".

This little bird keeps using its small mouth to pick up twigs and pebbles from the mountains and throws them into the East China Sea,

hoping to fill it up and relieve the hatred in its heart.

Later, this story was condensed into " Jingwei fills up the sea ", which is used as a metaphor for resentment and determination to take revenge.

However, the East China Sea is so deep and wide, and the Jingwei bird is so weak,

so "Jingwei fills up the sea" can be used to describe a strong will and not afraid of hardships.
