The deeds of old monk Xuyun in Yunju Mountain

Dear elders, fellow Dharma masters, fellow laymen, and fellow believers:

I would like to take advantage of this opportunity to briefly introduce to the Hong Kong Buddhist community the deeds and life characteristics of the old monk Shangxu xiayun in Yunju Mountain.

I hope that his various good words and deeds will serve as a reference for our descendants.

 An example of learning Buddhism.

In August 1956, I traveled from Hanshan County, Anhui Province to Zhenru Temple in Yunjushan, Yongxiu County, Jiangxi Province,

where I sought refuge with the old monk Xuyun and sought to become a monk.

I was nineteen years old.

After graduating from high school, I left home and went to Yunju Mountain.

In fact, as early as the age of sixteen, I secretly wrote letters to the old monk without telling my family.

Although he was a well-known eminent monk at home and abroad, he always replied to me personally.

各位長老，各位法師，各位居士，各位善信朋友們：

 

本人想借著這次因緣，向香港佛教界人士簡略地介紹一下，上虛下云老和尚在雲居山的事蹟及其生活特點，希望以他老人家的種種嘉言懿行，作為我們後人學佛的榜樣。

我是於一九五六年八月，從安徽省含山縣到江西省永修縣雲居山真如寺，投靠虛雲老和尚求出家的。

當年我十九歲，高中畢業後就離開家裡到雲居山去了。

其實，早在十六歲開始，我已瞞著家人給老和尚偷偷寫信，他老人家雖然是海內外知名的大德高僧，但每次都親自給我回信。
