滄海桑田_英
time brings a great change
to the world
Ge Hong was born in Jurong, Jin Dynasty.
His courtesy name was Zhichuan and his nickname was Baopuzi.
He is good at the method of guidance and nourishment by gods, and wrote the book "Baopuzi",
describing the method of alchemy(煉丹術) and establishing the theory of longevity.
The "Biography of Immortals", which was written later, contains the biographies of dozens of Taoist immortals.
The
book records such a story:
Wang Fangping sighed and said: "Once it becomes land, traveling through the East China Sea will be full of flying dust."
Later, this story evolved into the idiom "The sea becomes mulberry fields", and "mulberry fields" become fields where crops are grown.
The sea becomes land, and the land becomes sea.
The metaphor environment changes greatly.
It is a metaphor that things in the world are impermanent and change rapidly.
And used to express "things in the world are ever-changing".
The legendary fairy Magu (麻仙姑) said when chatting with the fairy Wang Fangping(仙人王方平):
"Since I received you last
time, the East China Sea has
been turned into farmland
three times. Time flies so
fast.
When I visited Penglai Fairy Mountain
just now, I saw the surrounding sea water, it’s half shallower than the last
time I went there, will it dry up again and turn into land?”
Example sentences
No matter the east sea changes into a mulberry field, the true love will never change.
