成語故事：捉襟見肘 feel the pinch; dressed in tatters and live miserably


When Zengzi (曾子) was in Wei, he had not had new clothes for ten years.




When he tried to put on his hat, the hatband broke;




 

when he grabbed the collar of his clothes, his elbows were exposed;




when he put on his shoes, his heels were exposed;



his life was full of anxiety and fear.



 

Life was very hard. Later, the idiom "捉襟見肘" evolved from here, which means that the clothes are tattered(破爛) and the life is difficult.
