During the Jin Dynasty, there was a palace guard named Ji Shao, the son of Ji Kang, one of the "Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove" during the Wei-Jin period.(竹林七賢)

He was tall and strong, intelligent and handsome, standing out among his peers.

 

During the reign of Emperor Hui of Jin, Ji Shao served as a court attendant.

 

At that time, the imperial family was embroiled in a power struggle.

 

This infighting, known as the "War of the Eight Princes," saw Ji Shao remain steadfastly loyal to the emperor.

On one occasion, a rebellion broke out in the capital, and the situation became dire.

 

Ji Shao bravely 

rushed into the palace.

The guards at the palace gate drew their bows, ready to shoot him.

 

Seeing Ji Shao's upright and dignified bearing, the palace guard quickly stopped the guards and snatched the arrow from their bows.

 

Soon after, another rebellion broke out in the capital.

 

Ji Shao followed Emperor Hui to the Battle of Tangyang, but was unfortunately defeated.

Many soldiers were killed, wounded, or fled, but Ji Shao remained by Emperor Hui's side, protecting him throughout.

 

Enemy arrows rained down like raindrops. Ji Shao was struck by several arrows, his blood splattering onto Emperor Hui's clothes. Each drop of blood represented his unwavering loyalty.

 

After the incident, some advised Emperor Hui to wash away the bloodstains, but he refused, wanting to forever remember Ji Shao's loyalty in protecting his lord.

 

Before Ji Shao's martyrdom, someone had said to Wang Rong, "Yesterday I saw Ji Shao in the crowd. His majestic and upright figure was like a crane standing among chickens!"

 

Wang Rong said, "Yes! Just like his father, Ji Kang. Like father, like son!"

 

"A crane standing among chickens" (idiom): A crane standing among chickens is extremely conspicuous. It is a metaphor for someone with outstanding talent and extraordinary abilities. It can also describe someone with a majestic appearance, noble character, and who stands out from the crowd.

 

晉朝皇室有個侍衛官中嵇紹，他是魏晉之際「竹林七賢」之一嵇康的兒子，體態魁偉，聰明英俊，在同伴中非常突出。

 

晉惠帝時，嵇紹官為侍中。當時皇族爭權奪利。

 

互相攻殺，史稱為「八王之亂」，嵇紹對皇帝始終非常忠誠。

 

有一次都城發生變亂，形勢嚴峻，嵇紹奮不顧身奔進官去。

 

守衛宮門的侍衛張弓搭箭，準備射他。

 

侍衛官望見嵇紹正氣凜然的儀青，連忙阻止侍衛，並把弓上的箭搶了下來。

 

不久京城又發生變亂，嵇紹跟隨晉惠帝，出兵迎戰於湯陽，不幸戰敗，將士死傷逃亡無數只有嵇紹始終保護著惠帝，不離左右。

 

敵方的飛箭，像雨點般射過來，嵇紹身中數箭，鮮血濺到惠帝的衣服上，每一滴血都代表著他耿耿不變的忠心。

 

事平後，有人勸惠帝洗掉血漬，惠帝卻不願意，希望能永遠記取嵇紹護主的忠心。

 

在嵇紹殉難之前。有人曾經對王戎說：「昨天我在人群中看到嵇紹，他那雄偉挺拔的樣子，簡直就像仙鶴站在雞群裡一般的突出呢！」

 

王戎說：「是啊！就像他的父親嵇康，真是有其父必有其子啊！」

 

「鶴立雞群」（成語）：鶴站在雞群之中，非常突出。比喻人的才能超群出眾，不同凡俗。也形容一個人的儀表雄偉，才德高尚，與眾不同。
